The complete charge air cooling solution for the Porsche 997.1 Turbo / GT2!
This kit is flat rate priced and includes our motorsport quality intercooler and high flow Y-pipe with all hoses and installation accessories. To further enable a better breathing engine, our compliant intake ducts can be purchased together with these products.

The MERA intercooler kit and Y-pipe are great products on their own. Used together they generate a large reduction in inlet temperature, lower back pressure throughout the system and therefore enable greater power.

Information on intercoolers:

MERA as in more, means more cooling, better airflow, greater performance. Simply, MERA!

When launching this intercooler kit in 2016, we chose to use a Tube&fin core, which allows for excellent cooling and airflow combined with low weight. It has proven very well over the years, featured on various 1000hp builds. In the fall of 2021, it""s time for the next phase in the ongoing development of do88 products. After extensive testing, we chose to upgrade to Garrett""s motorsport-grade Bar&Plate core, taking this already highly effective upgrade to the next level.

Differences compared to our previous version:

  • 11 °C lower IAT compared to our previous version.
  • 19% more airflow than our previous version.
  • New lighter air duct made of real prepreg carbon.
  • Weight increase of 3 kg per intercooler compared to previous do88 intercoolers.

The core is new, but the end tanks and all accessories are the same as before. The intercoolers feature cast end tanks that distribute the airflow over the entire core very precisely. This is very important as a good tank design will be beneficial to both pressure drop and cooling efficiency. In order to fit an intercooler with the appropriate thickness for the job, a new upper ambient air guide also had to be designed. This was designed in our 3D scanned environment to ensure a perfect fit to the vehicle""s integrated air guides, as well as the intercooler. To further remove bottlenecks, the intercooler connections are 70mm (2 3/4 inches) to really allow air to pass through without restrictions. This also means that new hoses are included for each position, all designed in 3D with maximum airflow in mind. All hoses are CFD tested to guarantee this. The hoses on the turbo outlet are made of a high-temperature specification material, rated for a continuous temperature of 240°C (464°F). To really take advantage of all the heat the ambient air transfers, the carbon ducts are equipped with adequate seals towards the body, forcing all the air to pass through the core and not escape around it.

All in all, the weight increase over the OEM units is relatively small considering the size of the intercoolers and the fact that it is a dense, all-aluminum construction. The weight of our intercooler is 8.45 kg (18.10 lbs) per piece and the OEM 997.2 intercooler weighs 3.30 kg (7.27 lbs) per piece. As much as this may seem in terms of weight gain, it is more than well compensated when we consider the performance gain that these intercoolers provide!

About the Y-tube:

We present the result of extensive research, many hours at the drawing board, and numerous 3D visualizations and 3D prints. The do88 Y-tube is the ideal solution for larger numbers when you want to eliminate all system restrictions, offering very good airflow combined with low weight! The Y-tube is made from lightweight mandrel-bent tubing with a high-quality 3D-designed cast joint between them. There are NC machined connections for BOV and breather hoses on the cast manifold.

This construction adds a lot of performance but just a hint of extra weight. The do88 performance Y-pipe weighs 1.52 kg (3.35 lbs), the OEM plastic hose weighs 1.38 kg (3.04 lbs), and a competitive cast performance hose comes in at 2.76 kg (6.08 lbs)!

As a finishing touch, the Y-tube is rounded off with a high-quality powder coating that makes it look as good as it performs! You can choose between the more discreet semi-gloss black and a new metallic silver finish.

Performance:

When it comes to performance, the do88 bigpack significantly reduces intake temperature! The graph below shows the difference compared to the OEM 997.2 units.

Data is collected with an AIM race logger in 5 consecutive runs in an immediate sequence. Full throttle accelerations between 50-250 km/h (30-155 mph) in a Stage 1 tuned Porsche 997. No cooling in between, just full traction. During each test, the car was driven in Sport Plus, AC off.

The test was conducted as follows:

First of all, 5 runs were carried out with the car equipped with an OEM intercooler. Stop, quick parts changes with do88 intercoolers. Shakedown for a few minutes and then 5 runs done exactly the same way as the OEM parts. The decrease in inlet air temperature is significant, the peak delta is 18 °C (32.4 F), see graph below!

Cooling is important, as is airflow. After many hours of development, refining the final tanks and choosing a core to meet our request, the result is a much more efficient intercooler in terms of heat transfer and air flow. Using our in-house Superflow SF-1020 Probench, airflow is verified as a complete system with both intercoolers, hoses and Y-pipe for both the do88 bigpack and OEM 997 units. What you see is what you get: true performance!
